Day 1: Ouarzazate – The Dunes of Merzouga
The Moroccan desert excursion to the dunes of Merzouga begins in the morning in Ouarzazate around 8:30 AM to head towards the great dunes of Merzouga. We pass through the Anti-Atlas Mountains and then the Tizi-N-Tinifift pass at an altitude of 1710 meters, where the movie Babel starring Brad Pitt was filmed on this beautiful road. We arrive at the oasis of Agdez, the gateway to the Drâa Valley, after an hour of driving. In Agdez, we take the ancient caravan route passing through several villages built of earth. On the way, we pass by Tazzarine, the henna village of the Drâa Valley. Before arriving in Alnif for lunch, we pass by the village with 45 kasbahs, N'kob. Our Moroccan desert excursion continues after the midday break towards Rissani, the cradle of the Alaouite dynasty. We visit the large area of Moroccan fossils dating back 400 to 500 million years. Upon arriving at the Merzouga desert, we ride camels and enjoy the sunset over the great Moroccan dunes of Merzouga. Evening with music around the fire. Overnight in a tent at the bivouac.
Day 2: The Moroccan Desert Merzouga – Ouarzazate
The Moroccan desert excursion in Merzouga continues after enjoying the sunrise over the dunes and having breakfast, with the return camel ride to reach the road and the 4x4. The adventure of the Moroccan desert excursion takes us to the capital of Moroccan dates, Erfoud, then to Lkhatarat, the ancient underground irrigation system. We have lunch at the Todgha Gorges before taking a walk. After the midday break, we continue on the road to the Valley of Roses and then the oasis of Skoura to visit the Kasbah of Amridil. We return to our starting point, Ouarzazate, at the end of the day.
