Day 1: M'hamid (the gateway to the desert) — Sidi Naji
The adventure in camel through the Moroccan desert begins by crossing the Drâa River with the team from Voyage Désert Maroc. We'll pass through the Palm Tree Oasis where we'll have lunch under the shade of tamarisks. In the afternoon, we'll continue our trek through the Moroccan desert to reach the tomb of the marabout (wise man) Sidi Naji. Evening around a campfire with a glass of traditional tea from the southern Moroccan desert. Night under tent or under the stars amidst the dunes.
Day 2: Sidi Naji – Erg Zahar (the roaring)
After breakfast, the camel trek continues towards Erg Zahar (+/- 200m altitude). We'll pass through the old souk of Bousnina where caravans once stopped to exchange goods from the south, Mali, towards northern Morocco and Europe. We'll cross two types of desert in the Moroccan Sahara (Erg and Reg) where we may see mirages. Today, we'll make only one stop to enjoy the magic of the great dunes of Erg Zahar in the afternoon. Evening around the campfire. Night at the bivouac under tent or under the stars.
Day 3: Erg Zahar – Erg Essedra
The caravan resumes its trek through the Moroccan desert to reach the dunes of Erg Essedra passing through the Reg of Azahar. We'll cross the Drâa River again to arrive at Erg Essmar where we'll have lunch next to the well, under the shade of tamarisks. After lunch, the caravan continues its itinerary crossing Erg Asmar, Larjam, then Erg Essedra. Evening around the campfire with a tasting of desert bread.
Day 4: Erg Essedra – Erg Chegaga
After breakfast, we'll continue our walk to reach the sea of sands, Erg Chegaga. We'll pass through Addaia (dried lake) to arrive at the largest dune in Morocco, where we'll have lunch on-site. The afternoon will be free to enjoy the sunset on the top of the dune (+/- 300m altitude).
Day 5: Erg Chegaga – M'hamid (by 4x4)
After enjoying the sunrise on the dunes, we'll return to M'hamid, the gateway to the Moroccan desert, by 4x4, passing through the three different types of Moroccan desert (Hamada, Erg, and Reg). We'll visit the Sacred Oasis, the tomb of Sidi Abd Arahman Athali, and meet the nomads in the Moroccan desert. We'll continue our circuit through the Moroccan desert by crossing the Hamada (black volcanic rocky plateau), with a lunch break in the shade of acacias. In the afternoon, we'll visit the M'hamid nature reserve where we can observe the oryx, ostriches, bustards... Return to M'hamid at the end of the day.
